New Case Study Highlights Suburban Water’s Turnaround of California System
The newest resource in the Truth from the Tap toolkit is a case study that details the turnaround story out of California from when Suburban Water Systems took over the Sativa Water District, which had been under government operations. After years of residents being forced to deal with unsafe drinking water and the added financial stress of purchasing bottled water, an oversight board took action and legislation was passed.
The end result: Suburban, a regulated, private water company, was brought in to own and operate the system.
Under Suburban’s professional operations, millions will be invested to replace pipes and upgrade crucial infrastructure, all while cutting water rates by more than 8% – reducing the average monthly bill by $5 a month – and providing a financial assistance program to those struggling to pay their water bills.
